Academy News by Lorena, Aurora Central High School, Class of 2019

My name is Lorena, I am a sophomore and I have been in the Boys Hope Girls Hope Academy Program at Aurora Central for one and a half years. Being a part of BHGH has been an absolute surreal experience for me. Since joining Boys Hope Girls Hope I have had countless opportunities to grow my network, meet new people and help out in my community. One thing I like about the program the most is being able to participate in community service projects. Last month 5 Academy scholars and I went to a local urban farm called the GrowHaus in Denver to sort local produce to give to families in need. I really liked this project because you could see firsthand where the food was going and it provided a direct impact to those families who need it the most. In addition to the service work I also was fortunate enough to go to the Opera with another Academy student as well. I LOVED that experience and am so grateful that I get to do these things, because I’m sure that if it weren’t for Boys Hope Girls Hope I wouldn’t be able to have these opportunities.
