Scholars handing out bread

On January 31st, 2015, we went to Great Harvest Bread to volunteer for The Loaf Project.  For every dollar donated to The Loaf Project, Great Harvest Bread donated the dough for one loaf of bread.  We had to first make the bread, which was real fun to make.  We made about 100 loaves to give out to people in need.  Then, when the loaves cooled down, we had to bag them and pack them in boxes.

Boys Hope Girls Hope had 30 loaves to give out.  We started giving out loaves on Broadway where we found five homeless people.  Then, the other loaves we gave out at Civic Center Park to people in need.  This was a good way to give back to the community.  It felt good when we gave the loaves to the homeless and to see how happy it made them.  It made my day to see them smile.  I wouldn’t trade this day, as I really enjoyed giving out the bread to people.  I hope to do another volunteer opportunity like this.
