2021 Off to a Good Start!

2021 is off to a good start, even if it is not quite “normal.”  Both of our partners schools, Aurora Central High School and Regis Jesuit High School are doing some in person classes and many of our scholars are attending some classes.  They enjoy seeing their friends and teachers!   Our collegians are in a similar situation.  Some are back on campus and others are at home taking classes remotely.  We continue to be flexible and make sure our scholars and collegians have what they need!

Scheduled virtual activities include yoga, art therapy, cooking classes, financial literacy, Collegian Café, and test preparation.  Tutors meet with our scholars virtually almost daily.  Our scholars met with partner organizations about summer opportunities that hopefully will be happening in person this year.  We can’t wait for summer!

Our seniors continue to receive acceptance letters from colleges and are waiting anxiously to hear results from lots of scholarship applications.   We have three seniors who are finalist for the Daniels Scholarship.  Say a little prayer for them!  So far, there are acceptances to Arizona State University, Colorado College, Loyola Marymount, CSU-Ft. Collins & Pueblo, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Regis University, Santa Clara, University of Colorado – Denver & Colorado Springs, University of Denver, and University of Northern Colorado.  Seniors can breathe a sigh of relief – they are going to college, but now the tough decisions of where begin!

This semester, we had 26 collegians apply for scholarships.  We provided over $42,000 in scholarships between Boys Hope Girls Hope Colorado and our Network Headquarters.  One collegian is interning at Edward Jones.  Another is finishing her final semester before officially entering the world of nursing.  Another CSU student is beginning to study for her MCATs, while another senior is deciding on which medical school he will be attending next year.

As you can see, our scholars and collegians are not letting anything get in their way!  Your gifts of time, talent and treasure open a world of possibilities for our scholars and collegians.  They do the work and we provide the opportunities.  We are grateful to all of you for believing in them!
