October at the BHGH Academy Program was filled with a variety of events which helped make this past month one of the most memorable. The month began with the annual Boys Hope Girls Hope breakfast. This year was the first year that any of the Academy scholars participated in the event and they all had a wonderful experience.

In the weeks following the breakfast, the Academy scholars also had the opportunity to listen to 2 guest speakers. Mr. Warren Mickens, with Century Link, and Priscilla Gardea, with Adams State University came to Aurora Central and discussed their careers and what it took for them to obtain their goals.

In addition to the Guest speakers, the Academy Juniors had the opportunity to visit two college campuses this month. The juniors had an overnight stay at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and a day trip to The University of Denver.  A big shout out to President Tim Foster and his team for making the tour of CMU absolutely terrific!  They thought of everything down to the name plates on the dorm doors.  Scholars also went to different college fairs held in Denver.  One scholar was heard saying, “I’m not sure which college I’m going to, but I know I’m going to college!”

In the middle of all of this we also had the Boys Hope Girls Hope re-commitment ceremony which was held this year at the Denver Children’s Hospital. This event allows the scholars and their loved ones an opportunity to come together and officially commit to another year within the program. The room was filled with parents, friends, and family and once again showcased how exceptional these young men and women are.

October was very busy, as well as demanding for our scholars at the Academy and we couldn’t be more proud of how well were able to represent the program in the community.
