ACHS Sophomore Dihana Finds Her Voice with Speech and Debate

This past year and a half has not been what I expected. As an eighth grader, I did not realize how many activities I would be able to get involved with in high school. With the support of BHGH, I have discovered many ways to contribute to my school and my community.

As a freshman I joined student council and Aurora LIGHTS, a program for students interested in healthcare professions. BHGHCO gave me all the resources I needed to complete my homework and other projects and provides a good environment where I can get my work finished. I am currently ranked 3rd academically in my class of 459 students.

So far, the most exciting thing to happen to me this year was joining Speech and Debate. I joined with my best friend and preparing for competition is a lengthy process. Our piece is a dramatic interpretation of two teenage girls- Sue and Julie- who discover a mystical book that tells women everything there is to know about men. The points we won during the competition lead Aurora Central to victory in the Denver Urban Debate League Competition. Joining Speech and Debate definitely took me out of my comfort zone but I am so glad I did!

BHGHCO is currently encouraging me to apply for MC2, a two year internship program at Children’s Hospital Colorado and Denver Health. I am very interested in a career in healthcare.

I am also very interested in attending the University of Colorado- Boulder. BHGHCO took us on a campus visit last spring and I loved their beautiful campus. I was also really impressed by the variety of degrees they offer in the health sciences.

BHGHCO has also encouraged me to do eye-opening volunteer opportunities. My favorite one so far has been serving dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission. This experience made me realize the contentment that comes from providing for others. I am so grateful for the support of BHGHCO in my journey through high school. Thank you!
