June started with a week-long break for most scholars. Jorge stayed behind to take the ACT and the SAT prep classes. He also took the tests and did very well! In the meantime we welcomed four new scholars: Javier, Jocelyn, Kimberly and Yovanna. Two of them are attending the Regis Jesuit Ignatian summer program. The other two are participating in an in-house summer school. Oh yes, summer at Boys Hope Girls Hope is in full swing! In addition to reading, writing and math, scholars are discussing current events, building vocabulary and learning about science, swimming and golf. Those who caddie are working two to three times each week – saving up for college.
As with most families, summer is also the time to catch up with doctors and dentists: Luis had his wisdom teeth removed. Thank you Dr. Carroll! Many of the other scholars had their annual physicals and bi-annual dental cleaning. Elias went to an adventure camp in the Red Feather Lakes while Jorge took an AP history course at Regis Jesuit High School. Ahmarri traveled to Nebraska for BHGH Campus Camp and then went straight to Geneva Glen Camp with Ulises. Luis attended a robotics camp at CU-Denver. Other fun events have been: visits to farmers markets, cooking and cultural lessons from around the world, community service and student drivers behind the wheel (yes, this is an exciting adventure!) Nary a dull moment! Residential Counselors are team-tagging to keep up with it all. All is well at Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado. Thank you for making all of these activities possible.
