Aurora Central HS Scholar, Achol, Shares Her Favorite BHGH Memories

I joined Boys Hope Girls right after my 8th grade year so I got to spend all of last summer in the program. Becoming a BHGH scholaris definitely the best decision I have made since starting high school. When I was an 8th grader, the idea of high school seemed scary and daunting. Luckily for me, I have an older sister who gave me the good advice of joining BHGH. Akolda had told me about the program for years but I had no clue about what it truly entailed. I soon learned that it was a program for students like me who wanted to succeed in high school and beyond.

One of the favorite memories that I have had in BHGH is visiting Red Rocks Amphitheater. The theme of our summer program was, “Tourism and Hospitality in Colorado” and we spent the summer exploring some of the coolest spots in Colorado. I loved Red Rocks because it was so much fun and the scenery was so beautiful. A beautiful day with good food and 380 steps that we climbed was definitely a memory that I’ll never forget. Denver Botanic Gardens, the BHGH Hope Challenge Golf Tournament, and Johnson and Wales College of Hospitality Management are also some of my favorites from that summer.

Since joining BHGH I’ve managed to maintain strong grades and build amazing relationships with my peers and fellow scholars. With the support of BHGH, I have had an extremely successful freshmen year— I’ve become an active member of the Student Leadership Club and the varsity volleyball team.

This summer I look forward to going to Camp Miniwanca, a leadership camp that I was introduced to by BHGH. I also have a full time job with Team Works, a summer youth employment program that emphasizes environmental stewardship.

I have already been given many opportunities through Boys Hope Girls Hope. I am so grateful for these experiences and look forward to the rest of high school and beyond!Thank you so much to everyone who supports us.
