Becoming Young People for Others

Our Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars had several opportunities to serve others this weekend.  I, along with the other counselors, was incredibly pleased with how they did.  Saturday the boys and girls were able to feed the homeless at Denver Rescue Mission.  Some of their responsibilities included; cleaning food cabinets, serving food, bussing tables, and setting up for the next meal.  Their willingness and eagerness to help serve others is what Boys Hope Girls Hope strives for.  The group learned that not everybody is as fortunate as they are and that it feels good helping others.

Sunday the group had the chance to go to a retirement home.  The kindness and gentleness that was shown by each of our scholars was awesome to see.  It was easy to see how much each of the kids truly cared for their friends at the nursing home.  The scholars got to sing, dance, and decorate pumpkins with their friends.  The individuals at the nursing home let us know just how much it meant to them that we come and hang out with them.  Our scholars are not only exceeding expectations academically, but also in the community!
