Boys Hope Girls Hope Collegian Christian Shares Details on What its Like to Live 3,300 Miles Away from Home

My name is Christian, and I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. One of the biggest decisions I’ve even made was moving 3,300 miles away from my family to the beautiful island on Honolulu. For me personally, going to school so far away from home has been good for me. I’ve had time to really get to know myself better as an individual; who I am, who I want to be, and find out what this all really means to me.

It was a very difficult adjustment for me at first; I was homesick and there was some culture shock. When comparing to last year, I’ve had an easier time finding my way around the island, knowing where things are here, I had to learn what it’s like to live on an island and all their customs and just how life in general works here. However, through all of this I know I am where I’m supposed to be. I’m in my happy place here, what’s not to love…it is Hawaii after all. But time management is still a little difficult for sure, but I’ll get the hang of it no doubt.

My favorite moment so far being in college was last year during the school year I got water baptized. I found my community and I was able to start growing in my faith. This has continued for me throughout this year but not only has my faith continued to grow but I also get to help other find and grow their faith as well. Thank you to all the Boys Hope Girls Hope supporters for giving me this opportunity!
