My name is Aaliyah, an alumni of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado, and I am currently 2 months away from graduating from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in applied Public Administration and Community Service and a certificate in Entrepreneurship! I am very excited to be done, but once I walk across that stage I know it will be a bittersweet feeling.
I remember moving into the Girls Hope home in early 2010, and now it is already 2017 and I am graduating from a university. It seems like a lifetime ago since I was in the house, but now I understand that all of those late nights studying for exams, quizzes, and the ACTs/SATs, had a clear purpose and have brought me to the goal of being the first college graduate, not only in my family, but also of Girls Hope of Colorado.
It has been an amazing experience being a student at the University of North Texas, I have learned a lot about myself and have become more ambitious. Following graduation, I plan on working and paying off my student loans, but my real enthusiasm lies in being a business owner. The entrepreneurship courses I have taken at UNT have inspired me to own my own business. Last semester I worked on a business plan, which I hope to start within two years of graduating. I will continue to reside in Texas following graduation and I hope to enjoy my new life outside of school and becoming an adult. Thank you for making all this possible for me and my family!
