It’s hard to believe Halloween is this weekend and soon Thanksgiving will be here! This fall has been busy for all of us at Boys Hope Girls Hope. Between football games, homecoming, the first grading period and a couple of special events, the staff and scholars are working to accomplish goals.
In mid-September, we hosted the Success Starts With Hope at the Hyatt Regency and raised almost $50,000. This was a wonderful opportunity to tell our story. Stephanie and Noah both talked about why they liked being a part of Boys Hope Girls . We met many new friends and have engaged those people as new volunteers and donors.
The following weekend the Girls Hope program in Baltimore was featured on the season premiere of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We had a screening party at the Tavern DTC to watch as a group. It was a fun night, a few tears were shed and money was raised. We are fortunate that three families stepped forward to create a Challenge Fund of $20,000 to be matched dollar for dollar in two weeks. I am pleased to say that we met their challenge and even exceeded it. With everyone’s generosity, we raised $47,000. Click here if you want to watch the show.
Two weeks later, Libations Wine and Spirits and the Circle of Hope hosted the 12th annual wine tasting and membership round up. It was a great event with more wines, spirits and beers than you could possibly drink and the food was fabulous! The silent auction spearheaded by the Circle of Hope had interesting jewelry and baskets.
The Regis Jesuit High School Men’s Club is now doing outreach with Boys Hope Girls Hope. Members of the Men’s Club, their wives and children all came over one Saturday to paint the Boys Hope scholar bedrooms. We also had volunteers from Avaya and the Young Professionals board helping us out with fall clean up inside and outside at both houses. The spring and fall clean ups are a huge help for us! I’d also like to recognize the Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of Loreto for their continuing commitment to helping us on our facilities. They come to the houses once a month and help with “honey-do’s.” I am so grateful for all this help!
Thank you for what you do for Boys Hope Girls Hope. You help us provide for the children God has placed in our care. We are blessed to have you be a part of our success.
