Scholars Celebrating their Gifts
Scholars Celebrating their Gifts

December was a short month with the holidays, but it was filled with hard work and fun activities. The students finished up their first academic semester on the December 18th with the inevitable push to secure good grades.

In the first semester, Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars created a Leadership Council to bring together the Residential and Academy scholars on a regular basis.  Luis, from the Boys Hope home, is the President and Mayra, from the Academy is Vice-President.  The first Leadership Council activity was the first annual Boys Hope Girls Hope Toy and Food Drive. The scholars collected almost 400 non-perishable food items and new toys, which then were delivered to the Denver Rescue Mission before the holiday break. We were all very proud of the effort put into this project, from our scholars and their families.

The scholars also participated in several other opportunities this past month which included the a shopping spree to Kohl’s for all the new scholars.  Thank you to the Centennial, Southeast, and Highlands Ranch Rotary Clubs for providing this exciting opportunity! Other activities included Denver Nuggets and Denver Broncos games, trips to the Denver Botanic Gardens and Museo de las Americas, as well as volunteering at with Denver Health.

All of these events culminated with the Christmas party held at Aurora Central High School and sponsored by Colorado State Bank and Trust. Check out the Christmas Party!  This event was a wonderful way to end the year and everyone who participated had a terrific time. The party included individual gifts for the scholars, food, music, contests and prizes. It was definitely a highlight of the year and we are all very appreciative of those who were a part of the event.
