How long have you been a volunteer with Boys Hope Girls Hope and how did you get involved with the organization?
I started working with BHGH in October of 2021, tutoring physics students from Regis High School. Since then, I have also tutored BHGH students studying physics at CU Boulder. Because my primary residence has been in the mountains, most of my tutoring has been conducted virtually. Additionally, I have overlapped my volunteering for the Boettcher Scholars Alumni Board, by presenting BHGH students with overviews on how to keep their post-secondary options open and how to prepare college and scholarship applications. I have also helped with practice interviews for many BHGH students as they prepare for scholarships.
What is your most memorable experience volunteering with Boys Hope Girls Hope?
My favorite activity has been working with rising seniors during the BHGH College Application Bootcamp held at Aurora Central High School over the last two summers. I am constantly inspired by the enthusiasm, grit, intelligence, and stories of BHGH students as they actively pursue educational opportunities to continue to improve their lives! These are amazing young people!
Why do you continue to support Boys Hope Girls Hope?
I deeply value that the BHGH Program offers continued support to their students through both high school and college. This is the “extra mile” that makes all the difference.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering with Boys Hope Girls Hope?
If you are considering supporting or volunteering for BHGH, I would encourage you to get involved. The growth you will see in these young people will put a smile in your heart!
