Boys Hope Girls Hope collegians are supported in networking and attending field-relevant conferences, placement in meaningful internships, and finding employment at the end of their collegiate experience.
In October, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado collegians, Brooke, Cindy, and Jasline, joined several collegians from other Boys Hope Girls Hope affiliates to attend the annual Women of Color STEM Conference in Detroit, MI.
These collegians are World Wide Technology Scholars, collegians studying STEM or STEAM majors who applied and were one of 25 collegians selected to receive scholarships, funding to attend several STEM-relevant conferences, and the opportunity to apply for a summer internship with World Wide Technology.
At this Women of Color STEM Conference, collegians had the opportunity to network with others in their field, hear the stories of accomplished women in STEM, attend seminars, and learn more from their peers.
Collegian Cindy shared that she found the seminar sessions throughout the conference were particularly helpful. One of her favorite sessions from the conference was a seminar about how to handle the feeling of “not belonging” as a first generation student.
