A Sneak Peak Into Arthur’s Journey
Stepping into the world of academia can be both thrilling and daunting. There are countless new experiencesto embrace, an array of knowledge to absorb, and a multitude of opportunities to seize. A shining example ofmaking the most out of these opportunities is Arthur, a soon to be graduate at the University of Denver,majoring in political science and minoring in statistics. His journey gives us a glimpse into how one canchoose one path but later transition to another path with the help and guidance of mentors and support.
A Glimpse Into Arthur’s Path
Arthur will soon be the first person in his family to obtain his bachelor’s degree and attend law school.“Without Boys Hope Girls Hope, I would not have pursued a career in law. I originally had planned to attendtrade school and/or become a teacher, but through Boys Hope Girls Hope networking events, they helpedme see that a career in law was as attainable as any other job,” Arthur stated. Arthur joined Boys Hope GirlsHope while he was a freshman in high school at Aurora Central High School and experienced first-hand theopportunities that were offered through the program. Boys Hope Girls hope provides after schoolprogramming for nearly 75 scholars in their two Aurora Academies (Aurora Central High School and RegisJesuit High School). The programming is centered on the long-term empowerment and potential of youth inthree different categories: college preparation, college access and college persistence.
Collegian Programming
The college persistence programming through Boys Hope GirlsHope includes supporting approximately 60 collegians spreadacross the United States with scholarships, support on classselections and majors, partnerships with universities andcolleges to provides in person support, connections for oncampus health and well-being, and internships/career guidance.“The post-secondary program manager has been very helpful infinding what career paths were best for me. They also placedme with a mentor that has gone through the path I plan to take.Boys Hope Girls Hope not only provided the support througheducation but also through my personal growth journey ” Arthursaid.

In addition to Arthur’s education endeavors, he is also thePresident of the two student organizations on campus, the LatinAmerican Indigenous Student Association (LAISA), and theApartment Halls Council.
Final Thoughts
Arthur plans to become a civil rights and/or immigration lawyer and eventually a judge. “I was unsure of what I wanted to do at first whether it be law or politics, but an internship with a lobbying company that I found throughBoys Hope Girls Hope helped me realized my passion was actually law rather than politics,” Arthur reflected. He goes on to say that Boys Hope Girls Hope has provided amazing networking opportunities in various fields and partnerships that he contributes to his success in finding his career path. “I am looking forward to going to law school and serving my community in navigating the legal system.”
